It’s the tail end of cross season. There are less choices to race each weekend, the euro’s went home, Colt has less to talk about on CyclingDirt, and it’s Christmas! Some are getting tired and worn out, but others are finding good stride at the end of their season. Others yet are still searching out another race before they head to nationals to keep the legs open. Whatever the reason for racing, there is somewhere to go. This holiday weekend, not far from you, Christmas Cross is coming!
In its third year, Christmas Cross may just a low key grass roots race, but that’s why its good. There’s no sanctioning, no stress, and no worries. If you have Christmas Eve Day open, Christmas Cross is the place to be. That’s right I did say this race is unsanctioned by any governing body whatsoever. There’s 6 races up for grabs, and any given person can race most of them (with certain limitations on junior, singlespeed, and womens). If you are a woman on a single speed, you can race all day! In fact, the first race is $15, the second is $10 and so on, and if you can do 5 races, I’ll pay you $5! If you’re doing the math at home that’s only $25 for 5 races. Men’s categories are not based on ability, there’s just three of them, so feel free to do all of them for a solid day of riding.
This year the course will be a touch shorter than the traditional cyclocross course at only 1.2 miles. The main feature will be the Christmas run-up through the archery range critters with a thigh high barricade to traverse. We’ve got plenty of single track on tap, and there’s not one, not two, but three run-ups! As always the death drop remains in at the entrance to the pond, however the pond is not frozen over this year!
We’ve all got holiday activities to go to, but if you are looking for a race the good news is that you can look no further. Come enjoy the free coffe and snacks while building up the bonfire at Christmas Cross in Carlisle, PA (where all the major roads in PA connect!) If the ground stays unfrozen all week like the weather says it will, we’ll be having some fun rolling around the course racing for wreaths and bacon!

Great event Zach! I had a lot of fun for my first ever CX race. Looking forward to doing it again. Are any of the pics or videos posted?
