Tuscarora Off-Road Weekend and the MASS Endurance Race #1
______________________________________________________________________

It's the whole package in the early season. Do one, do all, do none.....it's up to you, but I know I'll be there. Tuscarora State Forest is a back woods Pennsylvania forest: home to logging, hunting, and lots of leaf covered trails that wind across hill and dale. It's rocky and about 10 years behind the times. There are no purpose built trails out here. No grade reversals. No sanctioning. What it offers is rocks and beautiful cold-water streams that wind through the mountains and put a smile on your face. Rather than tell you what your experience should be, I'm going to tell you what mine would be.

Friday I'm going to drive the dirt roads to the Showaker trail head, the registration area of the Super-D, and set up my tent before I drive 2 miles out to the base of the trail for a couple of evening practice runs. When I return I'm going to enjoy a camp fire before bed. In the morning, I'm going to wake up, check in, and ride over to the race start for one last run on the course. I'm going to catch the shuttle to the top of the hill, and I will complete my race run. I hope I will be the fastest down the hill so far for the day, so that I can sit in the hot seat at the end of the run until someone else does it faster. I'll hang around and watch awards before catching a ride back with a buddy who parked at the end of the run. I'm going to eat a leisurely lunch at my camp site before heading down to Fowlers Hollow State Park (downhill on road the whole way to the park) for a lap on the course with the Team CF fundraiser ride. After that, I'll catch a ride up to my camp site again with my buddy who drove down to the park. I'm going to make dinner and relax. In the morning I'm going to ride down to my team tent at the park again and register for the race. Then I'm going to race my ass off for 4 and a half hours. I'm going to wash off in the stream, enjoy some vegan chili with fresh cut-fries, and watch the awards before I go pack up my camp and drive back home. Satisfied and exhausted.

It's a really simple equation:

(You itching to race) + great race(food+friends) = AWESOME!!

Courses and Race Info:

Super-D Course

Course starts out with a short climb, then turns to rocky flat before dropping straight down the side of the mountain in one screaming, adrenaline packed descent.

The Super-D will be individual starts at :30 second gaps between riders. If you miss your start time, it gets tacked onto your time, so be 10 minutes early! Start grid with pre-reg'd riders start times will go out with race information no later than friday night. Day of reg'd riders will be added into the grid in open spots and be given their times upon registration.

Endurance Course (Endurance Race and 1 lap for Fundraiser Ride)

Raw mountain trails with my favorite rocks and enough double track to keep it quick while facilitating passing. Fight to get in your fifth lap!

Endurance race will go for 4 hours. If you get out on your last lap before 2pm (4 hours), you will be able to finish that lap. However if you get in after 2pm, you are done racing and will be scored at such time. Very similar to what most 24 hour races do for scoring.

Come out to get your preseason hours in, while having a lot of fun on a great course while "racing" your friends. Carpool on out and bring a bunch of people to make it even more exciting.

Please carpool if you can!

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Race Meal (Sunday):
We will be teasing your palate with vegan chili, grilled sausages, sauteed onions and peppers, and fresh cut fries. Always tasty and made with love. If you've come in the past, you know how good this is and how much a part of the race it is.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

PARKING:
Please follow the direction of the parking attendants. Please carpool as much as possible.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Feed Zone:
The approved feed zone will be noted with signage. This is located after the finish line area. Please use this area for your coolers/stands/bottles/etc.

Extra Nice Team Tent/Primo Feed Zone Spot/Camping Sites can be reserved through bikereg.com for $30/night. There are only 12 of these. They have electric, are close to a nice bathroom, can sleep up to 5 people per night, and the course goes right past them every lap!
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Race Food/Support:
We will have Regular check point station food, and a selection of essentials. (Banannas, fig bars, licorice, chips, pretzels, granola bars, etc.) You know what works best for you and what tastes best. What you will find with our bars/gels/etc will be hit or miss, so I suggest bringing your own energy product if have preferences. You can leave a drop bag anywhere in the feed zone.

Camping:

There are two places you can camp.

1) Showaker Trail Head: there's 5 designated sites here with tons of room. It's free, but it's primitive. We can have 30 people camping here.

2) Camp sites are available for reservation on our bikereg.com registration site. There are approximately 12 sites which have electric and 6 that don't. Price is $30/night and can have 5 people per site. That means we can have around 90 people camp at the venue.

Don't make reservations online, just pay on-site in an envelope at the campsite.

More info: HERE @ DCNR

ARE YOU NOT A COLD WEATHER CAMPER? Plan ahead, get a group together, and rent an RV! Someone did this last year so I looked it up. It's affordable. If you have 5 people, it is under $100 all said and done, factoring gas from pick-up in Carlisle. Look into it HERE.

MASS Rules

EVENT RULES

-We are in a state park, which means "NO ALCOHOL". I guarantee you that there will be forestry officers walking around at the event, and they will cite you if they see it. If I see it, I'm not going to be happy with you either. Please don't do it, I want to keep this venue for years to come.

-No littering. If I see you littering, I will kick you out of the event. This goes for gu wrappers and the like. Keep my forest beautiful.

-Be kind to everyone. NOBODY likes "that guy". Don't be that guy.

-If you cut the course, intentionally or not, own up to it. If you own up to it, I'll let you finish in last place of your category (it happens sometimes, I understand) and still earn points. If you don't own up to it, and at least 3 people can testify to it, I kick you out of the event and publicly humiliate you. It's not cool.

-If somebody is hurt on course and you find them, it is YOUR responsibility to find a course marshal and let them know! No race is so important that you can't help someone out. Ask if people need a hand.

-No cheating, bad sportsmanship, throwing bikes, temper tantrums, uproarious behavior, or making a scene. I'll kick you out on principle.

-If you think there is an error in your results, bring it to my attention like a responsible adult and we'll get it taken care of with the timing company. If you corner me and attack me about a finish error, I will kick you out and DNF you. Nobody deserves that kind of behavior.

-No solo fires. Charcoal/gas grills are fine, but don't dump it in the parking lot or edge of the woods. Bring it along, take it home.

-Dogs Permitted- please keep them on a leash though....I love dogs, but not everyone does. Pick up after them, I hate stepping in sh*t. No dogs on course during the race please.

RACE LOCATIONS

***Note on Navigation: All the following coordinates are in the format that google uses. Most GPS's use a variety of formats. Check the format settings before plugging coordinates into your GPS. ALSO, don't drive down gated roads (closed gates) or double tracks. We are on official, maintained gravel forestry roads.....if you are on something that looks like a trail, you aren't going the right way. If there is ice on the dirt roads, be really careful and only continue if you have 4-wheel drive. I'm not trying to scare you, just make good decisions and be prepared so you don't get lost following your GPS.
